part 1

Walking in the public garden on the embankment I had a chance meeting with an old friend of mine and stopped near a bench to have a small talk. We were surrounded by rich grass, blooming acacia and magnolia, splashed in the ozone of the spray. Noisy streets, interweaving, missed one another in different directions. The rocks of the buildings towered majestically. Not any of them resembled each other, but together they made us think of a magic town.

It was a hot summer day. At the crossroads of two streets, from the sky-high wall, just opposite us, fell down a multijet waterfall. Fine water dust sparkled in the sun in many colors, and on the other side of the street a marvelous rainbow was bending. Some flows, striking one another, interlaced and decayed in the flight. The main flow was falling down free, without touching any obstacles. Probably they had been on its way before, but the fall destroyed them with its persistent efforts and now it was falling down, free and slowly, as if being concerned of its own power and holding itself back in the flight, looking even more powerful because of that.

The noise of the waterfall, washing off the residual garbage of bustling sounds of life soothed the soul, we felt its wet breath, and the smell of wet stones, and a light breath of eternity.

A waterfall, which had come to light on the surface by chance, is a strong flow of the nature’s bloodstream. We calm ourselves, looking at it and listening to its wet rich noise. The nature just offers us its wisdom, not imposing it on us. The health of the Earth - is our health!

In the course of conversation and pondering an evening came imperceptibly. At parting I had a look at the embankment and stood still in the silent excitement, looking at the huge water wall, rising to the sky. The streams of blue light were crawling on the huge waterfall; it was towering immovably, in lifeless silence, as if the magical decoration of grandiose apotheosis. Nothing could surpass this show!

In our project we were guided by the following basic points:
-the geographical position of the area (Athene, Greece)
-historical-mythological aspect ( Fales, Homer ( reflection about water)
-climatic data ( dry hot summer, small amount of rain)
-significance of image of the building as a symbol Piraeus (the main port of Mediterranean Sea)

All the mentioned data have something in common – Water. That is why we have chosen water as the main material of the façade Piraeus’s Tower.

We offer the usage of water resource of the sea for creation of waterfall effect on the top of the tower façade. Water comes into the basement of building, where it is cleaned and is poured into the reservoir. Then with the help of the pumps on the vertical communication shaft it is lifted to the top of the building. After that with the help of nozzles and watering, placed row upon row on the ambit of the tower, the water, saturated with the air, runs down. On the housetop of the stylobate the water goes into the channel, and then – again into the reservoir.

The façade of the building behind the water surface is made of glass (Butacite®, SentryGlass®) and it is fully water-locked (Elvaloy®). The housetop of the stylobate is covered with flexible waterproof material (Elvaloy®, Fusabond®, Ti-Pure®), over which a terrace for walking and open-air cafes are situated. The façade of stylobate is made of concrete coating with surface protection Zonyl®. The lower glazing is a light-transparent two-ply double-glass pane (Butacite®, SentryGlass®). In the building the engineering systems on the basis of DuPont® materials are used.

2007 – becoming a prize winner of the international architectural competition «Arquitectum». A prize winner of the award «Golden section». Project «diffusion gradient» a bridge-museum in Venezia, Italia.
2005- 2009 — working as an architect at «Totan Kuzembaev Architectural Workshop» in Moscow, Russia.

Irina Prytkova
Birthdate - 1982
2006 — graduating from the Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering
2006 - 2007 – undergoing a training under the direction of Josep Acebillo at i.CUP (the Institute for the Contemporary Urban Project , the Academy of Architecture, the University of the Italian part of Switzerland in Mendrisio
2007 - 2009 – working as an architect at investing-constructional company «Millennium Zilant-City» in Kazan, Russia.
Additional important information:
2009 – cooperative working with the architects of NBBJ in Columbus, USA
2008 – studying modern methods of treating the modern urban area at Barcelona Regional (Josep Acebillo), in Barcelona, Spain.

2009 г. – organizing by Danir Safiullin and Irina Pritkova an architectural Workshop «Йорт/Yort» in Moscow, Russia.
