International competition

International competition for a master plan and conceptual design of the science city, Egypt. (συμμετοχή έως : 15 Μαΐου 2016)

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt is launching a single phase, open, international competition for a "Comprehensive Master Plan and Conceptual Design of the Science City," to be located in 6th of October City near Cairo. The principle missions of the future Science City will be the dissemination of scientific knowledge, the promotion of science for development and the support of scientific education and research. The winning project should represent the evolving nature of science through a campus of several buildings to be implemented gradually, one at a time.

The UIA has endorsed this competition, the regulations for which conform to the UNESCO-UIA regulations for international competitions in architecture and town-planning.

OBJECTIVES
The competition seeks to find the comprehensive plan and design for a scientific complex on a site of approximately 124,994 M2, which will house interactive science exhibitions, a museum, a planetarium, an observation tower, research and development facilities, workshops and a conference centre. The Science City is intended to be a landmark for the 6th of October City and will symbolize the rebirth of the study of science in Egypt.

- Close of Question and Answer period: 9 June 2016
- End of Question and Answer period: 16 June 2016
- Deadline for project submission: 17 August 2016
- Jury Meeting: 23-28 August 2016
- Results announced: 29 August 2016

AWARDS
The winning entry will receive 110,000 USD, the Second Prize is 70,000 USD, the Third Prize 40 000 USD, the Fourth
Prize 20 000 USD and Four Honourable Mentions at 5 000 USD each. The organizer will give each of the 8 winners an
additional sum of 3 000 USD to compensate for retaining their drawing.

ELIGIBILITY
The competition open to registered architects and to multidisciplinary teams led by an architect. The non-refundable entry fee is 100 USD. The language of the competition is English.
