Greek version

OpenSimSim is an open source architecture network based in Berlin. The design process contains the idea of exchanging input and feedback on the design. The goal is to define new objectives, develop strategies to initiate activities, meet people in the architecture field, make the design process more transparent, and create new visions.

In this basis, "Inspired by the wish to help people in Japan" after the catastrophical earthquake of magnitude 9.0 that shook Japan on March 11, which caused the death of thousands of peolple, the OpenSimSim decided to start an initiative called "OpenJapan". community buildings and infrastructure have to be reconstructed after this multiple disasters compounded by an ongoing nuclear crisis.

This 72h OpenJapan WorkJam, is a global event in which, cities from different timezones will work in parallel, for real projects on real sites in the affected area in Japan which can be used "as an incubator for sustainable recovery". The project begins on June 10th at 10am (1am GMT) with a six hour work session in Kyoto Japan. Japan has a special role to play since from there will come the basis of the ideas. The results from this first brain storming session will be passed over to the next city by order of timezone. After 24h the status of the work will be handed back to one node in Japan. This principle of a relay race will be repeated over 72h. In this three-day project, the cities participating, will be grouped into 4 different time-sections each working in 6 hours shifts. Projects will be handed over from one time zone to the next. Kyoto, for example, will hand off to Moscow, which will in turn hand the projects off to Berlin, which hand off to New York. All the cities will discuss the project from the point of view of sustainability (Ecological, Social and Economical Sustainability). In contrast to the usual architectural design process, the final result will be a collectively owned property licensed under creative commons principles.
