Istanbul is designated as 2010 European Capital of Culture together with Essen-Germany, Pecs-Hungary by European Union. The American Institute of Architects / Continental Europe (AIACE) will hold its annual conference in April 2010 in Istanbul with support from Yildiz Technical University, Turkish Chamber of Architects and Building Information Centre. The theme of the conference is Istanbul: Layers of History, Culture, Architecture. The conference program focuses on the urban and architectural issues of the city coupled with tours to spots of architectural importance. The program also includes a workshop to produce ideas on Istanbul. The updated information on the conference takes place at http://aiaeurope.org.
An exhibition titled PLATFORM FOR ARCHITECTURE is being organized to bring together works of world architects, at Building Information Centre between the dates 08-12 April 2010 paralleling the AIACE Conference. The exhibition is organised by Marmara Professionals Federation and the e-magasine architectureplatform. A catalog of displayed projects is planned to be published and distributed to exhibitors.
