Radical design

Environments and Counter Environments; Italy: The New Domestic Landscape, MoMA 1972. (until 5 June 2011)

Greek version

The Swedish Museum of Architecture is now showing an exhibition on radical Italian design and architecture. It is also an exhibition about an exhibition. It looks back at a movement in design and architecture in Italy and at an exceptionally innovative and ground-breaking exhibition, Italy: The New Domestic Landscape, which was presented at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1972.

The exhibition was a comprehensive presentation (and manifestation) of Italian design and architecture when it was perhaps at its most vital and influential. The way the exhibition was organised into different categories of the presented material made it into a survey as well as a critical exploration and discussion of various approaches to design and architecture.

Environments and Counter Environments; Italy: The New Domestic Landscape, MoMA 1972 looks back at the original exhibition in an attempt to revive an important discussion on design's and architecture's explorative and critically discursive role in the shaping of society.

The exhibition has been curated by Peter T. Lang, Luca Mollinari and Mark Wasiuta, and produced by the GSAPP, Columbia University, New York and The Swedish Museum of Architecture.

Place : Swedish Museum of Architecture, Stockholm
During : until 5 June 2011
