The organization of circulation in Missolonghi

This thesis tries to give suggestions and solutions for issues not covered by traffic studies for Missolonghi. Utilized data drawn from these and adapt to conditions prevailing in the city nowadays, combining, improving and developing some of their ideas. Finally, innovative proposals are quoted, hoping that any implementation will contribute to the integration of the region's network of tourist destinations, with developmental benefits.

Object of my thesis was to investigate the principles and priorities for traffic management at Missolonghi, my home town. I am trying to deal with issues related to the movement in the urban space.

Exploring the city's history, the social character of the economy and its liturgical assembly, and interactions with the mainland-based archival and bibliographic data, as well as survey views of the local population emphasize the urban dimension of the issue. Utilizing the above I suggest a full traffic study of the city of Missolonghi respecting, completing and reviewing the existing situation. Target of these is the safe and functional service of central points of the city, its history and points of tourist interest and the harbor.

The interface, security and complacency residential areas guaranteed by the separation of local and trans-local movement, the location of public transport and channel traffic of heavy vehicles.

Through my experiential experience I filed a proposal that tries to highlight paths, perspectives and elements of architectural heritage.

Critical point and center selection of the study is to develop a network of footpaths and cycle paths parallel to the network traffic, but separated from it. The alternative mobility network covers the entire city and revives a tradition of cycling that because of flatness land, was for many years living in the area.

Innovative element of the proposal is to convert part of the old railway line Railway Northwestern Greece (SBDE were built) a bicycle path. This opens possibilities for browsing and escape in a unique natural landscape, but also potential development of alternative tourism, as the proposed route can join the network "EuroVelo", utilizing with low cost the train line which is abandoned today, at the standard of Spanish "Green Roads »(Vias Verdes).

This development proposal for the town and the surrounding area was born, because of the participation of this thesis at the exhibition "Imagine city: Missolonghi 2013", as the exhibitions "Imagine the city" recognize the potential and benefits of creativity and innovation scholars. Through this proposal, the opportunity to enhance the radiance of the city of Missolonghi in Greek and European space is giving, increasing  visitors to the city, with additional benefit economic development, and retention of the population.
