House - O

House - O was created in a dense residential area of Osaka city, creating a sense of openness and lightness despite the initial difficulties of the design.

This residence is built at a very small site of 66㎡ that looked like a garden. There were many limitations to build this house. It is situated in a dense residential area; there was low budget, height limitations of the area etc.
The design of the house became creative despite the initial limitations. To do so were used prefabricated materials and techniques.

Under those difficult conditions, the architect put as a priority in the design the natural lighting of the house, and the MA (space in between) in order to achieve "a feeling of generousness in this site".

The main building is a 3mx10m volume. A wall ‘swung open' is set parallel to the outer boundary of the building. As a result, a big, three floor residence was created, where the inside and the outside are integrated with harmony. "A light ‘pure' building was proposed" as the architect says.

The architect gave much importance to the structure, planning and interior detailing. The H-150x150 steel is used for columns and beams with cement panels, and the steel sash creates a protective skin for the building. The architect wanted to create a house flooded with physical light, which would be integrated with the surrounding environment. What finally was realized is a minimal industrial house. This house is located in a typical suburb of Osaka city.

This house is made for a married couple. It has an atelier, spare room and bathroom on the ground floor. The main residence is created on the second and the third floor which is like a floating space as the architect says. This floating space has a kitchen, toilet, shower room and a bedroom on the third floor. A prosperous residence was created with an atrium of 50m2 on the second and third floor.

Floating only a few meters above the ground it enables the living space to be separated from the street. It provides a sense of distance and at the same time there is continuity between the inside and the outside. The basic concepts of ‘space', ‘light' and ‘form' were successfully realized in this residence.
