Storey addition and renovation of a preservable building in Pagrati / 2009

This project is about the restoration of a preservable building of 190m2 with the addition of a 70m2 storey. The building has two separate entrances into a small courtyard which is open throughout and faces to Eforionos and Arktinou St. 

The building - made of stone - had undertaken sever damage due to long abandonment but also due to fire,  so there was a need to reconstruct it entirely. The building is now used as two different properties, one ground floor house and one two storey house. Our purpose was to create a contemporary building.  We choose to combine the old with the new through the contraposition of the forms and volumes. The extension' s facades are designed with the least of means, wrapped with a ribbon-like, uniform opening, creating a clean volume that contradicts the special aesthetics of the preservable building.
