Busan Opera. International ideas competition

It's been 135 years since Busan Port was opened as an international trade port in modern times!
We are waiting for your participation in the erection of the Busan Opera House which will be a leading role in the colorful transfiguration of Busan.
Since its opening as a port, Busan Port has played a role as an advance base of our country's international trade. Now this Busan Port is promoting the Bukhang Redevelopment Project in order to make a new leap. In the center of Busan Port Bukhang Redevelopment Zone which will come much closer to Busan citizens as water-friendly space, the Opera House will be placed as a new culture landmark of Busan.
For this purpose, we are promoting a competition for international ideas.

The Busan Opera House is a future-oriented cultural space that can raise our performing art culture one level up with its hi-tech facilities and differentiated contents, and further it will be a new cultural icon of Busan as a resting place loved by citizens and anyone can also enjoy. When the Busan Opera House is built in Bukhang Redevelopment Project site, Busan will raise its brand value all the more as a hub city for the worldwide marine culture, let alone a central city for logistics in the Northeast Asia.
I am fully confident that the creative ideas proposed through the upcoming competition will be a new growth engine of our Busan aiming for the international marine city in the Northeast Asia, and I am going to spread out this overwhelming dream in the future together with you.

This is an international ideas competition to establish a design for the Busan Opera House to construct in 2014.
The design will be based on a variety of ideas from both domestic and foreign specialists, as well as student groups. The opera house will include a variety of facilities that will foster a wide range of artistic activities all the while being accessible to the city's citizens. The grand scale of this project will be suitable for Busan's status as an international city.

Total floor area: It can be planned freely according to the idea of the designer but cannot exceed 60,000m2

Number of seats :

Opera house : 2,000 seats (±10%) / Multi-purpose theatre: 1,300 seats (±10%)

The building will be designed to stand as a landmark symbolizing Busan′s rise as a world─class tourism center.
The buildings and surrounding green space will provide a venue for artists and performers to display their craft, as well as a place for the public to meet, congregate and enjoy the natural surroundings.
The area surrounding the facility will provide the public with picturesque views of both the ocean and the Busan cityscape.
