SUMMARY
Our diploma project concerns the northern undeveloped part of Skiathos island. We have designed an annex for the students of A.S.F.A. , divided into four parts in order to adjust naturally to the existing network of forest paths.
The design varied according to nature, the pre-existing forest paths and after taking into consideration Papadiamanti's novel, "The Murderess". As a result, we have four different structures which nevertheless create a unity in total.

LOCATION
The study area of our diploma project is the northern, mountainous and non-developed part of Skiathos island. The island is divided in two main urban zones, the northern and the southern. We chose to intervene in the northern undeveloped part which on its greater part is mountainous and inaccessible.

ORIGINAL ENGRAVING LINES - PLANNING
On the island, particularly in the northern part, there is an extensive network of paths used in the past and until nowadays by humans and animals. Another basic element of the region is the numerous, scattered small churches with their cells.
Finally, the element most directly associated with the island of Skiathos is the novel "The Murderess" written by Papadiamantis. In this 'myth', the basic character runs, hunted, in almost the entire northern part of the island to escape from her predators. Her way through the forest was successfully identified with existing landmarks. Thus, we were able to use her "forest footprint" in our designing process.
Summarizing, the above mentioned elements were our initial source of inspiration. In the process of the project we considered them as three separate networks, and in their junction points we made our interventions.

USE AND OPERATION OF THE BUILDINGS
The area of intervention requires the establishment of a moderate use, environmentally friendly, which will attract young people throughout the year. In addition, the selected use of the building should be helpful for the tourism and should attract people of alternative interests in the region and highlight another aspect of the natural beauty of Skiathos. The above criteria lead us in choosing to design artistic stations for A.S.F.A.
The artistic stations are focusing in the need of the students to fulfill their personal and collective projects throughout their studding period. In addition, the stations will contribute to broadening the artistic cultural horizon and will also be available for organizing educational and cultural activities of the University or in cooperation with the local community.
In a second phase we decided to divide the main annex in four separate units which we disperse them in the area of intervention. The dispersion was made at the junctions of the networks mentioned above.

BASIC IDEAS AND DESIGNING PRINCIPLES
The idea of the construction of each building is based, according to our opinion, on four essential features and concepts deriving from the project's area. The features in each area are taken from the novel "The Murderess", the landforms of each region, the vegetation and the "trails" (meaning the existing paths and the route as described in the novel).
Due to these different parameters, each building has a unique "character" and looks like a natural extension of the landscape. The four buildings can be identified as a unit, since all of them were initially designed according to the orientation, the view and the engravings and they all share prismatic floor plans.
Furthermore, in each one we are able to identify the existence of open space as a continuation of the natural environment and to observe the separation of the building into two distinct zones.
In addition, all the buildings have common furniture equipments and same constructive materials were used. All the above parameters were our designing, building and constructive principles.
