Stream of Chalandri and City:

The motive for this project was the experience we developed in recent years with the area of the stream of Chalandri and the difficulty of finding its relationship with the urban environment and daily lives of residents. Through the analytical approach of the current situation, we emerge the latent-dynamics of the two systems to activate and make them conditions of existence of their common ground. 

Methodologically and in order to decode the complex perceptions of the current situation, we were led to consider the stream within the larger drainage formation in which it belongs. At this level we realized the importance of the stream to the overall geological background, realizing the potential of the autonomous ecosystem which is generated and maintained by the continuous, in space and time, presence of water.

To investigate the correlation of this ecosystem with its immediate urban environment, we were led to focus our study in the area where we see the culmination of tensions between the two systems. The association is achieved through the recovering of space in the fields of activation of the dynamics of both systems and through the returning of this space into designed public space. These spaces were seen as the necessary transitional areas where designed transitions are composed from the flows of the city to those of the stream and the ecosystem.
