Areti Markopoulou (Cirriculum vitae)

Areti Markopoulou is an Architect Engineer graduated from the Department of Architectural Engineering of DUTH (2005) in Xanthi, Greece.
She holds a Master Degree in Advanced Architecture (2006) from IaaC (Barcelona, Spain) with a related thesis in the field of ¨Prototypes of Urbanity¨ developed in Taipei, Taiwan in collaboration with The Observer Design Group and under the theme: Fast Asia, from Bits to Geography¨.
She has additionally attended the DLab of the Architectural Association (AA) in London (2009), as long as various courses and workshops such as Smart Geometry ¨Working Prototypes¨ (2010), eme3 ¨Disease of the City¨ (2009) and others.
Since 2004 she is a licensed member of Technical Chamber of Greece. She is founder of ¨EchoTexture¨ ,a research and design network with partners based in Greece, Spain, Slovenia, U.K. and Mexico. Since 2005 she is based in Barcelona and she has collaborated with several architectural offices (Roldan+Berengue,2006, fondaRIUS architecture,2007, BOPBAA,2008, Marta Malé-Alemany Architects, 2009) while since 2006 she is the Academic Coordinator and Faculty member of the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC).

She has  participated  in several Research projects such as the Hyperhabitat (Vicente Guallart Architects)  exhibited  in Venice Biennale 2008, the Fab Lab House (Solar Decathlon Europe entry of IAAC,2010 and others.
She has leaded the Exhibition ¨Fabrication Laboratory¨ in the Barcelona Design Hub on 2010, an exhibition about Digital Fabrication and 3D digital manufacturing technologies.

She has taught several workshops related with Digital Fabrication with: ETSAM (2008,May and 2007,April), University of Illinois at Chicago, UIC (2008,April),ETSAS, (2008,March, Barcelona, Spain) and she is leading the Design Studio of Phase 01 of the Master in Advanced Architecture of IAAC related with arboreal structures and natural logics/codes.

Her participation in publications include: Europan 9 in Ljubljana, Sustainable City and New Public Space, Ljubljana 2008 with the project: From Self Sufficiency to Sustainability,
Post-It City, Occasional Cities, Centro de Cultura Contemporánea de Barcelona (CCCB) ,2008 with the project: Taipei Urban Prototype as well as
Out There, Architecture Beyond Buildings IX Venice Biennale, Aaron Betsky, Venice 2008 with the project: Hyperhabitat:Reprogramming the world.
