LOCATION
Aigio is a small town by the sea in the north Peloponnese, which is found 42km away from Patra. At the end of 19th century Aigio went through a period of great economic development due to the blooming trade of currant. During this period were built the first industrial buildings in the town, which were the warehouses for the currant. Moreover mansions were erected by the wealthy merchants and the well-known architect E. Ziller designed many public and private buildings. However the period of the intense industrialization of the town started at the beginning of the 20th century. At that time were constructed two industrial complexes by the sea, which were ETEL and the Paper Factory of Aigio.

PAPER FACTORY OF AIGIO
The Paper Factory of Aigio was established in 1924 be a firm at Piraeus. The erection of the buildings was completed by 1927. Scandinavian technicians designed the complex and installed the machinery. The buildings were constructed during three periods: 1925-1930: initial stage, 1930-1960: period of development, 1960-1991: period of decline. In 1991 the factory closed down for good due to the severe competition from other countries despite the efforts to be rescued. Below are the information for each building.

THE INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX NOWADAYS
The buildings of the Paper Factory of Aigio belong to the municipality of Aigio. Nowadays the building 14 doesn't exist any more, because it collapsed ten years ago. The building 7 has been restored in order to operate as School of Physiotherapy, which is department of the University of Patra. All the buildings have bearing structure made of reinforced concrete and they are in a very good condition except for some wooden roofs. The condition of the machinery varies. Some of them are in a very good condition and others have been sold. The machine of the building 20 is the only one that can operate again.

BUILDINGS THAT I DECIDED TO REMOVE
From the buildings I removed the largest one is the building 9, which is in bad condition. The rest of them are insignificant constructions and canopies, that connected the main buildings with each other.

NEW USE
The industrial complex is concerted to a rehabilitation center for disabled people. I chose this function, because it demands many large spaces and it can also cooperate with the School of Physiotherapy. The image depicts the operation diagram and how the various operations are distributed among the buildings. At the 3d drawing are depicted the buildings that finally remain as well as the traffic regulation at the site with the two parking spaces. The main parking space is located close to the buildings. The small building right nest to this parking space is the reception. From there the visitors can go towards two directions. The first one is towards the large oblong building at the left, where is found the gym for the adults and the children and the second one is towards the building with the multiple pitched roofs, where are found the rooms. The rest of the buildings receive a different use depending on their size and their location. This is obvious at the drawing. Moreover the beach is suitably designed in order to receive the special machines, that enable the disabled people to swim in the sea. The detailed design of the interior and exterior spaces is presented at the plans, the sections and the scenes produced by 3ds Max.

CHARACTER OF THE INTERVENTIONS
3 TYPES OF INTERVENTION DEPENDING ON THE FORM OF EACH BUILDING

1st type: - Buildings with interesting form

- Mild interventions
- The new elements aren't in touch with the existing building

2nd type: - Buildings with less interesting form

- More intense interventions
- The new elements are in touch with the existing structure

3rd type: - Buildings with interesting form

- Buildings without interventions
- These buildings are just restored

COMMON CHARACTERISTICS OF THE 3 TYPES

- Reversible interventions
- The new elements are mainly made of wood
- The machinery remains at its position

PLANS SECTIONS RENDERING
At the drawings the dark grey color suggests the exterior spaces and the light grey color suggests the interior spaces. In addition at the drawings are presented all the machines, that have remained. Finally the new volume that is added next to the large oblong building includes the ramp, with is the central element of the vertical movements.
